Stan Lee’s Comic Book on Elvis Presley
Liquid Comics announced Friday that it will release an original short story about Elvis Presley, written by comic book legend Stan Lee, co-creator of some of the world’s leading superhero characters (Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, Hulk, Thor, etc.).
Commemorating the 35th anniversary in celebration of the life and legacy of Elvis Presley, the story by Lee was originally created as part of an exclusive hardcover, collector’s item anthology entitled “Graphic Elvis” which is limited to only 2,500 copies worldwide and available through select online retailers and at www.GraphicElvis.com.
Liquid Comics is now making Stan Lee’s “Elvis” story available to thousands of people for free as part of Free Comic Book Day, the industry’s biggest annual giveaway of free comic books across the country on May 5th, today.
Over two thousand comic book shops across North America and around the world will share the magic of comic books with their communities when they give out over 3.5 million comic books—free of charge—during Free Comic Book Day, which marks its eleventh anniversary this year. In addition to the physical book, an interactive digital and mobile app, entitled “Graphic Elvis: The Interactive Experience,” is also now available for $9.99 and features all of the content from the Graphic Elvis collectors book with bonus videos, animation and interactive features.
With the 35th anniversary, fans will be able to connect to Elvis using an array of digital channels. By visiting the “I am an Elvis Fan” promotion website, fans will have the opportunity to vote for the song list for a new Elvis CD, upload their image into an Elvis Presley mosaic print, and order the commemorative “I am an Elvis fan” t-shirt. Stan Lee commented on his participation of the book by saying, “What a thrill it is for me to be included in a book celebrating the life of Elvis Presley.”
Elvis shared the impact of comic books on his life in his acceptance speech for the 1971 Top Ten Outstanding Men of America award. “When I was a child ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book…so every dream that I’ve dreamed has come true a hundred times,” he said.
Stan Lee was joined by some of the most acclaimed graphic novel creators in the industry to portray the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in the visual styles. Graphic Elvis creators included Jimmy Palmiotti, John Cassaday, Paul Gulacy, Ryan Kelly, Paul Pope, Greg Horn, Jeevan J. Kang, Mukesh Singh, Steve Rude, Saumin Patel, Tony Millionaire, Samit Basu, Gilbert Hernandez and others.
