Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rebels – Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav – who were thrown out of the party’s decision-making panels a week ago for their alleged anti-party activities are all set to take revenge.

They have planned to host a national convention in Delhi on April 14 under the banner Swaraj Samwad (or self-governance debate). The rebels claim that the objective of the meeting is to discuss the future of alternative politics in India.

However, it seems that the main idea behind this move is to test their clout among the AAP volunteers who are being invited to participate from all parts of the country.

It is being conjectured that the rebel camp will announce the formation of a new political outfit to challenge Arvind Kejriwal-controlled AAP. However, the decision to form the new party will largely depend on the size of crowd in the planned meeting.

The rebel group is leaving no stone unturned to entice and rope in the existing AAP volunteers, as the success of AAP in the recent Delhi election was largely because of its volunteers who were used by AAP to campaign for the party.

Further, if Bhushan and Yadav are able to woo a large number of AAP volunteers, they might even try to dethrone Kejriwal and his followers from the top positions of the party and take control of it.

As the dissenters believe that volunteers are the backbone of AAP, their entire focus is to break them away so they could use them in the fight against Kejriwal, who, according to them, is a dictator in the group that was formed to honor democratic values.

Meanwhile, the breakaway group has launched an online campaign to invite AAP volunteers and supporters with the release of a Swaraj Samwad participation form.

In its invitation message, the form states, “Quest for alternative politics stands at crossroads today. We need to stop to think, to reflect and to plan our way forward. That is why we invite you for ‘Swaraj Samvad’ a dialogue to be held on the 14th of April.”

The message also assures those who may be scared of Kejriwal’s fury that the information provided by them in the form will not be shared with others. It says in Hindi language: “( आप के द्वारा उपलब्ध कराई गई जानकारी को किसी के साथ साझा नहीं किया जाएगा | )”
