Congress Hosts Kisan Samman Rally in Delhi
By Rakesh Raman
As India is facing multiple problems – economic, social, and political – under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) regime, the opposition parties are up in arms against the excesses of the current government.
Under the banner Kisan Samman Rally, the opposition party Congress held a massive rally of farmers in India’s capital New Delhi on Sunday (September 20) to protest against the anti-farmer policies of the Modi government.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi criticized the Modi government on the issue of farmer’s welfare and said that the Modi government’s decision to withdraw the Land Ordinance was a victory for the farmers of the country.
She, however, warned that the battleground of the fight between the Congress and the BJP over the rights of the farmers has shifted from Delhi to the States.
Similarly, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said, “The Modi government had been forced to take back the anti-farmer Land Ordinance after the farmers of the country united against the move.”
He said the Congress would continue to fight for the rights of the farmers.
Rahul Gandhi also said that the Modi government has not fulfilled its electoral promises to the people of the country.
