Congress Accuses BJP of Mining Scam in Rajasthan

While the Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi is relishing a purposeless foreign tour in the U.S., the Modi-led BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) regime is facing serious corruption charges back home.
The opposition party Congress blamed Friday BJP’s Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje of a major mining allocation scam.
According to Congress, Raje gave away national resources in the form of 653 mines (equaling 1,43,253 bighas or 22085.81 hectares in area) worth Rs. 45,000 crore (nearly $7 billion USD) to a chosen few, in absolute violation of the mandatory competitive bidding process.

Congress says that Modi came to power 16 months ago on the solemn promise of ‘Na Khaoonga, Na Khane Doonga.’ However, successive scams in the BJP-ruled States of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra have unmasked the patent falsehood of his empty rhetoric.
Meanwhile, Modi is enjoying his 29th foreign tour – now in the U.S. – since becoming the PM in May 2014. Estimates suggests that he has already splurged Rs. 200 crore (over $30 million) of public money on foreign tours while the country has hardly benefited from Modi’s excursions.
