Government Attacks on Students Intensify in India

As the conflict between Indian government and the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is assuming threatening proportions, the opposition political parties are criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP government for deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi.
While the Delhi police have not been able to check mounting hooliganism in the capital of India, goons – who are believed to be unleashed by the BJP government – are openly taking law in their own hands and attacking all categories of citizens who oppose the oppressive dictum of the government.
“Last week, we saw what a partisan police force means for rule of law and democracy in India. During the hearing of Kanhaiya Kumar, the JNU leader charged with sedition, lawyers led by BJP goons attacked journalists, students, teachers, and a special Supreme Court panel, while the police mutely stood watching,” blames the opposition party, Congress.

In response to the violence and oppression of students, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “The Indian National Congress is deeply concerned that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Sangh Parivar outfits and the BJP are trying to fit their square ideology into the circular ideology of the nation. Characterized by an essentially anti-Dalit, anti-progress, and anti-youth mindset, the government has now resorted to violence against the students of India.”
Meanwhile, the leaders of Left parties met President of India on Friday to express their concerns over the increasing lawlessness in the country.
In their memorandum to the President, the opposition leaders said, “We strongly condemn the attack launched by the RSS-BJP against the Left and all other democratic and secular forces in the country. It is clear that by spreading the canard of being “anti-national” the RSS-BJP have mounted an all-India attack against the Indian people.”
Among others, the memorandum was signed by Sitaram Yechury, Member of Parliament in India and General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
The leaders urged the President of India to immediately intervene in order to defuse the situation and prevail upon the Indian government to withdraw from this dangerous course that it has adopted.
Brinda Karat, another CPI-M leader, addressed a students’ gathering on Wednesday. In her speech, she said that the attack on JNU was an attack on the constitutional rights of the people of India.
As the local police force seems to be totally helpless in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the city, Karat also demanded Delhi police commissioner B. S. Bassi’s resignation.
While the chaos is persisting in Delhi, the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has completely failed to protect the people from the hooligans.
As Kejriwal is an incompetent politician who is not fit to become the chief minister, people of Delhi have completely rejected Kejriwal’s form of governance.
In an ongoing poll on RMN News Service, when people were asked: “Are you satisfied with the work of AAP government in Delhi?,” 78% said they are not satisfied (results as on February 13, 2016).

According to Congress, this apparent collusion between the Delhi Police and the Union Government has given the nation glimpses of the fascism of Modi Raj (Modi’s rule).
Singhvi said, “When the ‘Love Jihad’ and the ‘review of reservation’ propaganda failed, as displayed by the Bihar elections, the RSS is now trying this new ploy of masking their bigoted ideology into nationalism and trying to somehow fit its ideology into the minds of the people through repression and coercion. But raising nationalism as a bogey to repress students and gag campuses is totally unacceptable to the polity of this nation.”
Under Modi’s rule, India’s top writers, actors, artists, journalists, leaders of opposition political parties, and even the people in his own party have faced his wrath. And now his new target is teachers and students in the country.
In the past few weeks, Modi’s BJP government has unleashed a series of attacks on students in India’s top universities. The severity of Modi’s fury is so high that there are instances when students committed suicide to escape the increasing atrocities.
With the help of his education minister (who is an illiterate woman), Modi is invading India’s top educational institutions to take complete control of them. As he is hell-bent to make India a Hindu Rashtra (a nation only for people who belong to the Hindu religion), Modi wants to indoctrinate Indian students with his philosophy of Hinduism.
In the case of JNU, Modi and BJP want to kill the legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru under whose name JNU was established because Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, belonged to Congress which is now the opposition party to Modi’s BJP.
