Rebels Form Swaraj India Party to Challenge AAP

“Swaraj India” aims to spread the idea of “alternative politics” as opposed to “cult politics” adopted by Arvind Kejriwal.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rebels – Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav – who were thrown out of the party last year for their alleged anti-party activities are all set to take revenge.

In order to challenge Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP, Bhushan and Yadav formed Sunday a new political outfit “Swaraj India.” The new party is supposed to defame and defeat Kejriwal’s idea of politics which is based on falsehood and deceit.

The two dissenters had also created an informal platform last year under the banner “Swaraj Samwad” to break away volunteers of AAP headed by Kejriwal who also became the Chief Minister of Delhi after winning the state election in 2015.

While “Swaraj Samwad” attempt could not succeed, both Bhushan and Yadav went into oblivion. But now they have appeared again in the political arena with the formation of “Swaraj India,” which aims to spread the idea of “alternative politics” as opposed to “cult politics” adopted by Kejriwal.

According to Bhushan, “alternative politics” means a political philosophy driven by democratic, transparent, accountable, and decentralised political ideas with a vision and policies guided only by public interest.

In their first formal electoral battle, “Swaraj India” – under the leadership of Yadav – will contest the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) election which will take place in 2017.

Bhushan will manage the affairs of Swaraj Abhiyan, which will be the non-electoral campaign organisation of the new party.
