Delhi Water Crisis: AAP Govt Moves the Supreme Court

As Delhi is facing acute water scarcity, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headed by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved the Supreme Court to get water from the neighboring Haryana state.
AAP has accused Haryana of defying the apex court’s 1996 order that had directed the state to release 450 cusecs of Yamuna water daily to Delhi for drinking purposes.

“As regards water, the BJP government in Haryana is giving step-motherly treatment to the people of Delhi,” AAP said in a statement released today. The AAP workers also held a protest meeting in from of Haryana Bhawan in Delhi.

Delhi Jal Board (DJB), which is being headed by Kejriwal, has petitioned the court for seeking interim directions for supply of 450 cusecs (a unit of water flow equal to one cubic foot per second) of water in Yamuna river to Delhi at Wazirabad reservoir. The case is likely to be heard on Monday.
