Did Aadhaar Catch Bogus Teachers in India?
India’s Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has refuted the media reports that claimed no action has been taken against the bogus teachers caught through Aadhaar verification on the Gurujan portal of All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE).
Aadhaar is a 12-digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of the Government of India. This number serves as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India.
According to a government statement released Saturday, all the 80,000 names of such teachers have been shared with both AICTE and UGC – the regulators, for taking up the matter with the respective institutions and verify the reasons for incorrect entries.

The statement added that both the regulators are still on the job since the number of cases is very high. It also stated that an opportunity is being given to the institutions to rectify mistakes – if any – in showing entries in Aadhaar numbers.
Earlier, a couple of Right to Information (RTI) applications had contradicted HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar’s claims that thousands of bogus teachers have been detected through Aadhaar verification.
