As the conflict between Delhi Government headed by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lt. Governor (LG) Anil Baijal refuses to slow down, a new CCTV issue has now become an apple of discord.
Kejriwal – who is sitting on a dharna today in front of LG office – claims that LG (who is controlled by BJP) is not approving the CCTV proposal which is supposed to ensure safety of people – particularly women – of Delhi.
He added that earlier LG took more than a year to clear the Mohalla Clinics (community health care centers) proposal when he pressed the LG office with the help of his other colleagues in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Kejriwal warned that if the LG worked against the interests of the people, they will beat him with shoes and disfigure his face.
However, the LG office has clarified that Baijal has constituted a high-level committee under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary (Home) of Delhi Government to evolve a standard operating procedure or framework for installation, operation, monitoring of CCTVs and other related issues.

“CCTV is an effective tool for law enforcement but privacy concerns also need to be addressed,” an LG office communique stated. “While finalizing its report, the Committee shall consult all major users including departments, agencies, local bodies concerned, for their inputs and suggestions.”
Last month, in a hard-hitting statement, Kejriwal had said that the LG appointed by BJP is working as a dictator in Delhi.
He also has blamed Baijal for a multi-crore rupees ration scam in Delhi. Kejriwal’s AAP had said that Baijal is obstructing Delhi Government’s decision of delivering household items at consumers’ homes. It also said that the LG has stopped the use of e-POS machines in ration shops.
Another AAP leader Manish Sisodia has presented a white paper to hold the institution of the LG accountable to the people. Earlier, Sisodia also had alleged that LG Baijal is trying to protect the corrupt bureaucratic system in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal has threatened that he – along with other AAP leaders – will continue his protest against LG Baijal until he clears the CCTV proposal.
