JNU Student Umar Khalid Mocks Sambit Patra, Attacked in Delhi
A few hours before the attack on him today, Khalid had mocked BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra who has been blatantly spreading hate with his regular participation on TV shows.

Umar Khalid – a student leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) – was today shot at by an unidentified man in Delhi. Police said he escaped unhurt.
Reports suggest that Khalid – a fierce critic of PM Narendra Modi and his party BJP – had come to attend an event “Khauff Se Azaadi” organized by United Against Hate – an organization that works to stop hate being spread in the country by BJP.
A few hours before the attack on him today, Khalid had mocked BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra who has been blatantly spreading hate with his regular participation on TV shows.

Shehla Rashid, a former vice president of JNU Students’ Union, condemned the attack on Khalid. “Shocking and highly condemnable. A guy attacked Umar Khalid from behind and tried to shoot him in Delhi. This is the direct result of hatred whipped up by Republic TV and other hate media. I spoke to Umar. He’s okay, but we should be very very worried about his safety,” Shehla Rashid tweeted.

Khalid – who had already reported to the police that he is under threat – said after the attack that there is an atmosphere of fear in the country, and anybody who speaks against the (Modi) government is threatened.
Earlier, the threat was issued to Khalid when a sedition case was filed against him and former JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar and Anirban Bhattacharya for allegedly organizing an event against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
