NATO Expects Georgia to Join the Alliance
NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller was in Tbilisi on Friday to reaffirm NATO’s commitment to Georgia.
In her press conference with Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, David Dondua, she reiterated NATO’s position that Georgia will join the Alliance, and thanked Georgia for its commitment to NATO.
She said, “You are one of the largest troop contributors to our training mission in Afghanistan, helping to stabilize the country, and deny safe haven to terrorists. We deeply appreciate Georgia’s strong support for NATO’s operations and missions.”
Georgia’s membership to NATO is being delayed because of the presence of Russian forces in Georgian territory.
While in Tbilisi, the Deputy Secretary General was scheduled to meet with President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Gakharia, First Deputy Minister of Defence, Lela Chikovani, and other senior officials.
Between her official meetings, the Deputy Secretary General spoke with students at Tbilisi State University.
