Communist Leader Sitaram Yechury to Visit Occupied Kashmir
In order to suppress the voice of people with force, India has imposed curfew in Kashmir while people are virtually jailed in their homes.

The Supreme Court of India – after hearing the habeas corpus petition of CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury – has allowed him to visit Kashmir, which has been blocked by the Indian government for the past over 3 weeks.
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said today that Yechury’s petition to produce CPI(M) leader and four-time MLA Yusuf Tarigami in the court has been accepted in a way that instead of calling him to the court, Yechury has been granted permission to visit the ailing MLA.
CPI(M) claims that Yusuf Tarigami’s whereabouts are unknown since August 5, as the Indian government headed by PM Narendra Modi has illegally arrested hundreds of local leaders who oppose Modi government’s unilateral decision of abrogating Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K).
The Modi government’s annexation of Kashmir is being viewed as a unilateral, authoritarian move, which is expected to make Kashmir a veritable inferno because most people of Kashmir do not want to live under Indian rule.

As the Modi government has taken the decision against the will of nearly 8 million Kashmiris, the government is expecting a backlash from the locals who attack the violent Indian security personnel with stones.
In order to suppress the voice of people with force, India has imposed curfew in Kashmir while people are virtually jailed in their homes. Plus, the despotic Indian regime is not allowing the press to cover the fateful situation in Kashmir.
The Indian government has also arrested nearly 400 politicians, including former Kashmir Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, who want freedom for Kashmiris.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that people in Kashmir are breaking the curfew and holding protests and demonstrations against the dictatorial move of the Modi government. It is believed that some 10,000 protesters have been punished by the authorities.

As extreme unrest persists in Kashmir, the Modi government is not allowing media and opposition political leaders to enter the troubled valley for the world will come to know about the government’s atrocities on Kashmiris and human rights violations in the region.
Yechury had to apply for court’s permission because last week the J&K administration did not allow a delegation led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to enter Kashmir and the delegation was sent back from Srinagar airport. Yechury was a member of the delegation.
Comrade Yechury has planned to go to Srinagar on Thursday, August 29th. Today, he sent a letter to J&K Governor, Satya Pal Malik, regarding his visit to Srinagar. He has sought permission of the Governor to allow him to travel with a personal attendant.
After returning from Kashmir, Yechury will file an affidavit before the Supreme Court about his visit.
