Catch the Corrupt: A Service for the Masses
All of us know that corruption has become the lifeblood of Indian politicians and their spoiled brethren in bureaucracy. According to Transparency International (TI) – a global civil society organization leading the fight against corruption – corruption takes a huge toll on India’s economy. It is reported that US $19 billion in illicit money leaves the country each year.
Meanwhile, TI’s recent Corruption Perceptions Index 2010 shows that with a depressing score of 3.3 (on a scale of 0 – 10; 0 for highly corrupt and 10 for totally clean), India is among the most corrupt countries in the world.
It’s a fact that general public and business people are also responsible to some extent for the persisting corruption problem, as they pay bribes to get their work done in government offices. However, they can’t be fully blamed because they’re forced to live in an ugly pay-or-perish environment created by Indian politicians and bureaucrats.
While it’s extremely difficult to root out corruption from India, the task is not yet impossible.
With this belief, Raman Media Network (RMN) has launched “Catch the Corrupt” service, which aims to deliver relief to the victims of corruption or the painfully sluggish bureaucracy in India. RMN believes that inefficiency and lack of skills among government officers are also among the worst forms of corruption.
This service is a practical approach – as opposed to mere sloganeering – to expose and curb corruption in the country.
How it Works:
Step 1: You can use the ‘Comments’ area given below to briefly write about your case. Alternatively, you can send me an e-mail briefly describing your case. Your case details must include:
- Your Real Name
- Your E-mail id
- Postal Address (optional)
- Mobile Phone (optional)
- Brief Description of the Case (including the name of the department and officer, case details, current status of the case, important dates, etc.) – in not more than 250 words
You can write your complaints in English or Hindi language. If required, we may edit and translate them to bring more clarity to the cases.
Step 2: Depending on the information provided by you, we will contact you to take more details, if required.
Step 3: We will create a formal application and approach the concerned department(s) to get their response.
Step 4: If we do not get a satisfactory response or interim response from the concerned department(s) within a specified time period (normally 30 days from the date of our application), we will put the case openly in the Catch the Corrupt section of the RMN News Site.
Step 5: If we are not able to get satisfactory response from the departments through the above four steps, we will escalate the cases for the higher authorities to intervene for getting the cases resolved in an honest manner.
Step 6: The details of all these cases will be disseminated through different media channels (including the social media sites) to sensitize public and others in India and abroad.
As I have been fighting against corruption at different levels, I had started similar services: “Catch Your MLA” and “Punjab’s 10 Most Corrupt” in Punjab when I was running my company Weblink Infonet from Mohali (Chandigarh) around the year 2000. You can take a look at some of the press clippings of these services, which were extremely popular among the masses.
Now, Catch the Corrupt is an extended service, which will cover the entire country – India.
