Cox Hosts Free Kid’s Safety Festival
Cox Communications is hosting “Kid’s Safety Festival” on Saturday, July 9 at Pembroke Mall in Virginia Beach. This event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in front of the Cox Solutions Kiosk at Pembroke Mall. (The kiosk is located near the Food Court area in the mall.) The mall is located at 4554 Virginia Beach Boulevard, Virginia Beach.
For this event, the following activities will occur:
- Internet safety tip demonstrations for families through Cox’s “Take Charge!” program
- Special appearances by the Cox “Digeez” mascot and the Virginia Beach Police Department’s “McGruff the Crime Dog” mascot
- Free children vision screenings by the Lions Club
- Free prizes and special “register-to-win” drawings (grand prize is a 32′ HD TV)
From 12:00 p.m. to 2 p.m., families can bring their kids out to the mall to meet members of the Virginia Beach Sherriff’s Office. During this time, the Sheriff’s office will provide “Child ID” services.
This service provides parents with permanent picture identification, finger print and other information of their children. Parents of the first 250 children will receive a free “Kinderprint Child Safety & ID Kit” courtesy of the Investigation Discovery Network.
Gary McCollum, Cox VA senior VP said, “Cox is pleased to partner with all of these great organizations to bring this important child safety program to our region. We’re also pleased that the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Department and the Lion’s Club have joined with us for this special day of family fun. This is an excellent example of great collaboration between both the private and public sectors to promote safety with our families and our community.”
