Delhi LG Urges Citizens to Use Rooftop Solar Power Plants
Housing societies can install solar plant on their own or can avail subsidy for which solar plant has to be installed through empaneled vendors selected by tender process.

The Lt. Governor (LG) of Delhi Anil Baijal chaired a meeting on Monday to popularize installation of rooftop solar power plants in Delhi, particularly in residential areas.
According to an official communique, Baijal also urged the concerned agencies to proactively take up installation of solar power plants for offices, schools, and hospitals. He advised extensive IEC (information, education, and communication) campaigns to make people aware of the benefits of solar energy.
Delhi Government is also urging cooperative group housing societies to use solar energy as prescribed in the “Delhi Solar Policy 2016” and “Net Metering Regulations 2014” that have been notified in the state.

The new options are based on Government of India’s policy for Renewable Energy generation in the country, for which a target of 100 GW of Solar PV installation is set to be achieved by the year 2021. This policy includes installation of 40 GW roof-top solar panels on houses, farm houses, institutions, and offices.
Education Awareness Campaign

The Department of Power, Government of Delhi, has entrusted this work to Indraprastha Power Generation Company Ltd. (IPGCL) for installation of solar panels in cooperative housing societies and accordingly two models have been proposed for implementation of this project.
According to a notification issued by the office of Registrar Cooperative Societies (RCS), the solar schemes may be adopted by any cooperative housing society. The solar power generation is expected to reduce the electricity bill of the societies.

Meanwhile, Government of India is providing Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of 30% on solar installations for residential, institutional, and social sector use.
Under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) scheme, 30% subsidy is available for those solar plants for which rates of installation have been derived through bidding process either by State Nodal Agency or through Central Public Sector Unit (PSU).

Delhi Government is giving Generation Based Incentive (GBI) of Rs. 2 / unit on Solar to Residential / Domestic Sectors for which the minimum generation per year from 1 Kwp solar planț should be 1100 Units and the maximum limit has been capped to 1500 units per KW per year.
