Kohl’s Supports the Fight Against Breast Cancer
On Sunday, September 25, Kohl’s Department Stores presented the 13th Annual Susan G. Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure. Kohl’s said it had the largest team for this year’s race and fielded the largest team in the history of the Susan G. Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure, with more than 5,000 team members – more than double the size of last year’s team.
Meanwhile, new findings published in Nutrition and Cancer report suggest that consuming walnuts slowed both the development and growth of breast cancer tumors in mice.
Considering one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer in the course of their life, these findings are extremely important and provide deeper insight into choices we can make in our lives to help fight cancer and other chronic diseases. Kohl’s role as the local presenting sponsor of the race is just one component of the company’s investment in the fight against breast cancer. In 2010, Kohl’s announced a philanthropic initiative to fight breast cancer with a commitment of $7 million over three years to the American Cancer Society’s Midwest Division and the Southeast Wisconsin affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to support breast cancer research, education and patient-assistance programs.
This year, to raise awareness of Kohl’s commitment to the cause and to Susan G. Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure, Kohl’s created the “Every Ribbon Tells a Story” initiative.
It commissioned artists to design 16 six-foot-tall ribbon sculptures, each depicting the artists’ personal connections to breast cancer and acting as a symbol of hope and support for those affected by breast cancer.
The ribbons are now available for public auction at www.KohlsCaresRibbons.com from Saturday, September 24 through Tuesday, October 4, with proceeds benefitting the Southeast Wisconsin affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., Kohl’s is a family-focused specialty department store offering apparel, shoes, accessories, beauty and home products. It operates 1,097 stores in 49 states.
