Muppet Show Theme Song Premiere on VEVO
From the musical tribute, Muppets: The Green Album, OK Go and The Muppets team up for a music video for the “Muppet Show Theme Song.” The clip will premiere exclusively on VEVO, VEVO Mobile and VEVO on YouTube at 8:00 a.m. EST on August 23rd.
The song, written by Jim Henson and Sam Pottle, opened and closed “The Muppet Show” for five seasons in the UK and US, from 1976-1981. The new track was produced by OK Go and mixed by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, MGMT).
Says singer Damian Kulash, “I’m so excited about working with the Muppets that I can hardly sleep. Collaborating with your idols is a huge thrill no matter what, but when your idols are fictional characters it seems downright impossible. The 10-year-old me was pretty good at imagining outrageous futures, but this surpasses even his capacities.”
The music video was directed by Kirk Thatcher, who previously directed two Webby award-winning videos for the Muppets, “Ode to Joy” (over 15 million YouTube views) and “Muppet Bohemian Rhapsody” (over 21 million YouTube views), according to Walt Disney Records.
It celebrates a burgeoning Muppet extravaganza this year, which culminates in the November release of the Muppets’ seventh full-length feature film, Disney’s “The Muppets.”
The Muppets characters are led by Kermit the Frog. Since The Muppets Studio joined The Walt Disney Company in 2004, the Muppets have starred in a series of viral music videos, multiple television specials, attractions and appearances at Disney Parks, and have an array of Muppets merchandise.
VEVO is a leading music video and entertainment platform with offices in New York, London, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit and San Francisco.
Disney’s “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.
