Petition Asks PM Modi to Expel Terror Accused Pragya Thakur
Only a terrorist can call another terrorist a “deshbhakt” (patriot). This is how a new online petition describes Pragya Thakur who is a Member of Parliament (MP) in India.
With her association with affiliate organizations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the parent organization of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of PM Narendra Modi, Pragya Thakur is known for her admiration for Nathuram Godse who had assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.
Pragya Thakur was condemned by BJP for her remarks in Parliament today (November 28) when she called Godse a patriot, although she later walked back her statement.
“Terrorist Pragya calls terrorist Godse, a patriot. A sad day, in the history of India’s Parliament,” said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The online petition – started by Indian Youth Congress on change.org – is addressed to PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. It states that it is appalling and poisonous to the nation that Godse, the terrorist and murderer of Mahatma Gandhi (the Father of our Nation), has been outrageously endorsed time and time again by BJP MP and terror accused Pragya Thakur.

Yet, according to the petition, Modi and Amit Shah continue to stay shamefully mum. The petition adds that it was the duty of the Parliament Speaker to take swift action against such anti-India behavior, but his inaction has only aggravated this crisis. “Their deplorable inertia only proves that this sick anti-India sentiment is at the heart of the BJP and RSS,” the petition noted.
The BJP, according to the petition, in giving the party ticket to the accused behind the 2008 Malegaon bombings where 10 people were killed and 82 more were injured has once again proven to the country their malicious anti-India ideology of hate. It added that it is beyond shocking that the BJP appointed a terror accused like Pragya Thakur to the National Defence Committee.
“BJP endorsing a terror accused is alarmingly dangerous and poses a threat to India’s national security,” says the petition, adding that Pragya Thakur should be expelled from the Parliament.
