Pope Francis Presented With Hand-Crafted China Bowl
On September 22, 2015, Mayor Michael A. Nutter presented a beautiful china bowl hand-crafted by Lenox for Pope Francis to Archbishop Chaput at the World Meeting of Families opening ceremony.
Lenox Corporation, America’s leading tableware, giftware and home entertaining company, had the honor of crafting this special token of unity to celebrate this historic papal visit to Philadelphia.
“Pope Francis’s visit to the U.S. will be remembered for years to come by Philadelphia and the whole of America,” said Mayor Nutter. “It’s fitting that we present him with a beautiful, made-in-America design from Lenox, a Philadelphia area company. It was a pleasure to work with Lenox to make this a reality.”
The Declaration of Independence inspired the overall appearance of this piece, from the color palette to the hand-written script found on the inside rim.
To create this look the images were illustrated in the style of old lithograph-printing techniques. Independence Hall — home of the Declaration of Independence — and St. Peter’s Basilica — home of Pope Francis — are illustrated on the sides to symbolize the unification of our two cities.
The essence of the values between His Holiness and the founders of Philadelphia are written on the inside of the bowl; the important practices of Liberty, Friendship, Unity, Peace, and Love to our fellow man.
“We were honored to have the opportunity to design this special gift in our studio in Bristol Borough, Pennsylvania and manufacture it in our factory in Kinston, North Carolina.” said Peter Cameron, CEO of Lenox Corporation. “Lenox takes pride in being able to participate in this historic moment with our U.S. made fine china bowl.”
The bowl is handcrafted in the USA of Lenox ivory bone china with a distinctive opulent etched 24-karat gold border. This exquisite gift for Pope Francis was created with the same level of attention to detail and quality materials used to make gifts for U.S. presidents, governors and dignitaries during Lenox’s 125-year history.
Lenox Corporation is majority-owned by Clarion Capital Partners, LLC, a New York based private investment firm.
