Even after a month of his presidency, the demands for Donald Trump’s impeachment have not subsided.
While major protest rallies are scheduled to take place against Trump on the ‘President’s Day’ – celebrated on the third Monday of February to honor the first U.S. President George Washington – an online petition to get Trump impeached has already collected more than 223,000 signatures.
The petition expects Trump to be removed on charges of treason, as, according to it, he has violated the USA Patriot Act for conspiring with Russia in tampering with the results of the 2016 election.

“He (Trump) and his administration are an immediate threat to national security and his use of intimidation as president presents undeniable challenges in this investigation,” the petition suggests.
Along with Trump, the petition also demands immediate removal of Vice President Mike Pence and all civil officers appointed under his rule, pending the results of his administration’s investigation.
As the demands for his impeachment are getting louder, it is expected that Trump may resign before his official removal procedure begins.
It has happened in a similar case of 37th U.S. President Richard Nixon who was threatened with impeachment in the Watergate scandal. But instead of facing impeachment, Nixon had resigned.
The impeachment of Trump has to go through the GOP-led Senate and the Supreme Court, which may not like to impeach Trump.
However, the possibility of his impeachment cannot be ruled out because there is powerful anti-Trump lobby – led by Republicans Lindsey Graham and John McCain – within GOP that may get him impeached.

Moreover, Trump’s impeachment chances have now increased after the removal of his National Security Adviser Michael Flynn who was caught hobnobbing secretly with top Russian officials.
It is expected that in his further investigation Flynn will spill the beans about Trump’s hidden ties with Russia. Then Trump will also be forced to release his tax returns that he has refused to show.
His tax returns may reveal about his shady business deals in different parts of the world, including Russia. It will also make Trump’s impeachment easier. So, he would prefer to resign.
The impeachment petition argues that Trump is guilty on multiple counts of cyber bullying, before, during and following his election campaign; the most egregious being his statements regarding Mexicans, Muslims, the black community and his continuous taunting of China.
Meanwhile, another campaign against Trump – Not My President’s Day – says that “on February 20th, we will honor previous presidents by exercising our constitutional right to assemble and peacefully protest everything Donald Trump stands for.”
