Punjab Election: Social Media Training Arranged for Staff
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ 2017 ਦੇ ਮੱਦੇਨਜਰ ਐਸ ਵੀ ਈ ਈ ਪੀ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਅਧੀਨ ਦਫਤਰ, ਮੁੱਖ ਚੋਣ ਅਫਸਰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਿਲਿਆ ਦੇ ਨੋਡਲ ਅਫਸਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਨੋਡਲ ਅਫਸਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਤਮਾਂ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਸਟੇਟ ਇੰਸਟੀਚਿਊਟ ਫਾਰ ਪਬਲਿਕ ਐਡਮਨਿਸਟਰੇਸਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੋਸਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਟ੍ਰੇਨਿੰਗ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ।
The office of the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) Punjab organised Saturday a training program for all the SVEEP (Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation) nodal officers from 22 districts and media nodal officer at MGSIPA (Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration) Chandigarh.
According to an official statement, the SVEEP nodal officers were trained on different election activities. These included the training about social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc.
The main aim of the training was to enhance the voter knowledge for ethical and inclusive voter participation and in line with the ECI (Election Commission of India) motto of ‘No voter to be left behind.”
The nodal officers were trained to enhance the voter participation in coming assembly elections of Punjab Vidhan Sabha by concentrating more on social media tools like Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter, and Google Plus.

The use of print media and electronic media was also emphasized to reach to the eligible voter population. The nodal officers on media from 22 districts were also trained on MCMC (Media Certification and Monitoring Committees) and paid news.
The district level and state level committees were set up for media certification and monitoring and were given training to identify the paid news, certify the electronic and social media messages of political parties and candidates.

The committees formed at district level and state level will meet daily and direct concerned officers to issue notices, if any, against the paid news.
The Chief Electoral Officer (Punjab) V. K. Singh and additional CEO Sibin Chakkyadath were also present during the session.
Assembly election is expected to be held in Punjab in 2017. At present Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance has a majority with 68 seats in the 117-seat Vidhan Sabha. The government is headed by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The other major political parties in the state are Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
