See, How Pizza Hut Makes Hats for Horse Race
The first Saturday in May in the state of Kentucky brings with it many iconic traditions: roses, fancy hats, mint juleps and an unparalleled gathering of luminaries cheering on the best thoroughbred race horses in the world, informs Pizza Hut.
And the company announced Wednesday that it is adding a new item to the list by temporarily changing the name of the brand’s breadsticks to “Thoroughbread Sticks.”
This is to celebrate the grand occasion, which takes place in Louisville, home of Pizza Hut parent company Yum! Brands.

During race week, customers can get an order of Thoroughbread Sticks for the price of a minimum straight bet at the track – $2 with the online purchase of a large pizza at menu price from April 30-May 3 using promo code STICKS.
“For the millions of fans that can’t make it to the race on Saturday, Pizza Hut is offering a great deal on our all-time favorite breadsticks, amply renamed ‘Thoroughbread Sticks,’ this week,” said Doug Terfehr, director of PR, Pizza Hut. “There are not many sure things when it comes to the first Saturday in May, but this offer is sure to be a crowd pleaser.”

The Pizza Hut breadsticks are stated to be the company’s most popular side item. The breadsticks are seasoned with garlic and parmesan and served with marinara dipping sauce.
In addition to the deal, Pizza Hut has partnered with designer Angela Bacskocky to create custom hats in recognition of the headwear seen most often around the horse race.
The hats, made of Pizza Hut pizza and WingStreet wing boxes, as well as other materials found in Pizza Hut restaurants, will be displayed on the infield on race day and given away through the company’s social media channels leading up to the race.
Pizza Hut, a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE: YUM), delivers pizza, pasta and wings in its restaurants.
