Speaker Pelosi Urges Trump to Deliver State of the Union Address
Democrats took control of the House on Thursday and elected Representative Nancy Pelosi as the speaker, giving her the distinction to become the first woman to hold this post. A two-time House speaker, earlier Pelosi served in the post from 2007 to 2011.
Immediately after assuming the office, Speaker Pelosi sent a letter to President Trump urging him to deliver a State of the Union address to a Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.

The House also has moved to force open the government which was shut down by Trump over his demand for a border wall.
“Today, we voted to reopen the government and bring an end to the President’s decision to shut it down over a wall he repeatedly promised Mexico, not taxpayers, would pay for,” said Rep. Adam Schiff, new Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
“We must also continue the Russia investigation, and make certain that the President’s (Trump) decisions are made in the national interest and not owing to leverage by foreign powers” Schiff added. “We must restore Congress as a co-equal branch of government, and conduct serious and rigorous oversight.”
