Terrorists Attack Pakistan as Imran Khan Leads in Election
Pakistan experienced a massive terrorist attack Wednesday – the day of general election – that left at least 31 dead and many others injured.
Initial reports suggest that the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has claimed the responsibility of the suicide attack at a polling station in Quetta.
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the terrorist attack in Pakistan. According to an official UN statement, Mr. Guterres extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Pakistan.
The statement added that the United Nations stands in solidarity with and supports the efforts of the Government of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.
Meanwhile, according to the unofficial election result, former cricketer Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is leading in the election.
However, the opposition party PML-N of former prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif – who was jailed on corruption charges – has refused to accept the election result, saying the polling was rigged.
Condemnable terrorist attack in Quetta by enemies of Pak seeking to disrupt our democratic process. Saddened by the loss of innocent lives. Pakistanis must defeat the terrorists’ design by coming out in strength to cast their vote.
