The beleaguered U.S. President Donald Trump, who had imposed government shutdown 24 days ago, must be spending sleepless nights as hundreds of thousands of federal employees are not being paid and Trump is fast losing his political clout.
While Trump had brazenly claimed that he will own the shutdown, it has become a veritable albatross around his neck as majority of Americans hold Trump responsible for the persisting impasses over the shutdown.
Now, Trump is trying to throw the blame on Democrats by mainly targeting his bete noire Nancy Pelosi who was recently elected as the House speaker. “Why is Nancy Pelosi getting paid when people who are working are not?” asked Trump today.

Pelosi asserts that Trump’s Republican party is responsible for the shutdown and now Democrats are trying to get the government reopened. “Republicans started the Trump shutdown — and Democrats are working to end it,” she said. “Trump, it’s time for you to stop standing in the way of reopening the government. Let the Senate vote!”

She added that it’s Day 24 of the shutdown while 800,000 Americans are losing their paychecks. “The health and safety of countless more are in jeopardy,” Pelosi warned.
It’s day 24 of the #TrumpShutdown. 800,000 Americans are losing paychecks. The health & safety of countless more are in jeopardy.

She also blamed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for obstructing the funding bills passed by the Democrats-led House. “While House Democrats have passed the funding bills, McConnell hasn’t held a single vote in this Congress to reopen the government,” Pelosi said Monday.

Meanwhile, The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) – which is the largest federal employee union, representing 700,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia – are urging Trump to pay them for their work.
